The Human Camera

Today, we are featuring a special someone with extraordinary abilities. He is a thirty six year old architectural artist from London,England. He is known for his ability to draw a landscape after seeing it just once. He is autistic and is known as the ‘Human Camera’.

His name is Stephen Wiltshere MBE.

Scientifically, Austism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. It affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood.

To put it in plain, the nerves of an autistic person are wrongly wired, causing him to behave in a extreme manner.

Many people do not understand why an autistic individual behave the way they do. Often, they are deemed as intellectually disabled or mentally ill. However, in most cases, it is their bodies which are controlling their minds and preventing them from performing actions on free will. Therefore, they seek different ways to express themselves.

Stephen chose to do it by drawing

Armed with a photographic memory and a burning passion for drawing, Stephen has produced many brilliant pieces of artwork.

In May 2005 Stephen produced his longest ever panoramic memory drawing of Tokyo on a 10-metre long canvas within seven days following a short helicopter ride over the city.

Since then he has drawn Rome, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Madrid, Dubai, Jerusalem and London on giant canvasses. When Wiltshire took the helicopter ride over Rome, he drew it in such great detail that he drew the exact number of columns in the Pantheon

In 2006, he was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to art.

The lesson learnt here is valuable. Everyone has an inner voice that he or she wishes to express. It could be a problem, a thought or an opinion. Find a way to express it, tell others about it, influence someone. You never know what you will get in return. Keeping it within never feels as good as sharing it with someone. It is also the spirit that we at Lifetunez hopes to spread via this website.

Just like Stephen, nobody knew he was a genius until he started to draw. Now, he is impacting the lives of many people and living a life full of purpose.

Simply, he is an epitome of a beautiful mind.
